Winter Delmarva Dogfish BirdINNg Weekend: March 4 – 5, 2023
All Sunday, March 5 trips are going as planned. We have room on the 8:00 – 11:00 am field trip to Indian River Inlet & Burton Island, and the 3:30 – 5:30 pm “Scoters, Seals & Slightly Mightys” boat trips in Lewes. Registration will remain open all weekend! Click here to register.
The next Winter Delmarva Dogfish BirdINNg Weekend will be held March 5, 2023. This is our 8th year enjoying great looks at the waterfowl, seabirds, shorebirds, raptors — and seals! — that are on full display in the mid-Atlantic during the winter months. More than 110 species were tallied during the 2022 event, including Great Cormorant, Purple Sandpiper, Harlequin Duck, American White Pelican, 20+ species of waterfowl, as well as Harbor and Gray Seals.
In 2023, we are super excited to partner again with our friends at the Dogfish INN! Located in historic downtown Lewes alongside the canal and a short walk from Fisherman’s Wharf, the Dogfish Inn is the perfect basecamp for exploring all that coastal Delaware has to offer. Holding true to Dogfish Head fashion, you’ll find an offbeat approach to style, quality, and craft throughout each of their 16 rooms and their Super SWEET rental cottage located just up the street. Make the Dogfish INN your basecamp for winter birding!
Field trips include Indian River Inlet & Burton Island, Newport Farms near Berlin, MD, and the amazing “Scoters, Seals & Slightly Mightys” boat tours in Lewes. It’s also 302 Day at the Dogfish Head Brewery in Milton on Saturday, March 4, so stop by before and after your trips for local libations, lawn games, Delaware eats, live music and LOTS of 302 merch!
In 2021, the Winter Delmarva Dogfish BirdINNg Weekend was recognized by Southern Delaware Tourism with their Pioneer Award! The award was presented to Delmarva Birding Weekends and Dogfish Head for creating a new tourism product developed to meet changing consumer behavior and demands, and for being the first to apply a new activity or service that caters to visitors of Sussex County.
