Driving Route:

We will meet at the small roadside pull-off at the Brodess Farm Site, located near 2881 Greenbrier Road, Bucktown, MD 21613. The GPS Coordinates are: 38.459031,-76.048522. Please make certain to fuel up your vehicle and use the restroom before you arrive. We will have access to portable toilets during the tour along the Blackwater Wildlife Drive.

From there, we will drive ~20 miles on our tour. We will end with a ~45-minute, ~one mile walking tour in Cambridge that will begin at the Harriet Tubman Museum & Education Center, located at 424 Race Street, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Please note the following:

  • We have a permit that covers your $3 per vehicle daily entry fee for the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge Wildlife Drive.
  • We encourage you to bring cash donations for the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center and Harriet Tubman Museum.
  • Please make sure you have enough fuel in your vehicle for the trip, as we will not stop at gas stations along the route.
  • We encourage you to explore Downtown Cambridge before and after your tour. You will find bakeries, restaurants, breweries and shops all within easy walking distance of the Harriet Tubman Museum in Cambridge.

Some common sense approaches to make your winter birding trips more enjoyable:

  • Wear appropriate clothing and shoes for winter weather near the Chesapeake Bay! Boots are preferred on trips that include hiking.
  • Carry sunscreen, sunglasses and/or a hat to protect yourself from the sun. You can still get sunburn in the winter.
  • Bring rain gear as all events are rain or shine.
  • Try to arrive a little before the scheduled trip departs.
  • Most trips are not appropriate for young children. Please use your discretion when registering.
  • Be courteous to your fellow birders. Speak quietly and turn off cell phones during trips.
  • During COVID-19, restroom facilities are limited on many trips. Portable toilets are available at many of our birding locations.

Delmarva Birding Weekends is offering group tours with these COVID-19 guidelines in place:

  • We will establish and enforce safe social distancing standards during field trips.
  • Our guides and providers will wear face coverings during the trips. We will request that our customers do the same.
  • Tour group sizes are reduced in accordance with current COVID-19 restrictions.
  • There will be no carpooling to sites. All guests are asked to drive their own vehicles.
  • All trip registrations must be paid online through our website before embarking.
  • We will sanitize all work surfaces and offer extra masks and hand sanitizer to the extent possible and where practical. We encourage our customers to bring their own hand sanitizer, mask, and/or wipes for use during birding trips.
