Warblermania! will help you add warblers to your weekend tally! Meet your guide at Pocomoke River Canoe Company in Snow Hill, MD, and caravan to Nassawango Creek to search for Prothonotary, Worm-eating, and Prairie warblers, American Redstarts, Northern Parulas, and other birds of the bald cypress swamp. Please dress and prepare for possibly muddy trails and ticks.
KAYAK/CANOE: Warblers on Water (Porter’s Crossing to Snow Hill), 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
COST: $65/person sharing a tandem kayak/canoe ($130 total), $80/person solo kayak, $50/person with your own boat & portage
MEETING LOCATION: Pocomoke River Canoe Company
After we meet at the Pocomoke River Canoe Company in Snow Hill, we’ll be driven to the launch at Porter’s Crossing on the Pocomoke River a few miles north. We’ll paddle deep into this forested wilderness of bald cypress. Prothonotary Warblers, Wood Ducks, Eagles, and beavers are regulars on this 3-hour trip, which will end at the Pocomoke River in Snow Hill.
On a windy day, this paddle can present a moderate challenge as we approach Snow Hill. Paddlers may choose canoes, tandem kayaks, or solo kayaks. For scheduling, please select tandem kayak if you want a canoe. We will follow up later with your preference.
All paddling done by participants; some experience required. Must be 13 years old to participate. Please note: If you are reserving a tandem kayak or canoe, please plan to attend with a paddling partner also registered with the DBW. We can’t always guarantee another solo paddler will join you in a two-person boat. Thank you!
DRIVING/HIKING: Newport Farms Diversity Walk, 8:00 – 11:00 a.m.
COST: $25/person
MEETING LOCATION: the cul-de-sac at the east end of Hayes Landing Road near Berlin, MD
The 2,200-acre Newport Farm reveals spectacular spring birding replete with a remote duck-filled 70-acre freshwater pond next to the vast forests and marshes of Newport Bay. For this reason, this trip enjoys one of the highest species counts during the Weekend. Bird lovers on this one-of-a-kind trip will enjoy short walks totaling less than a mile. The bucolic scene provides a breathtaking backdrop to one of Maryland’s most-renowned Bald Eagle and waterfowl spectacles. Summer Tanagers and Blue Grosbeaks often make this trip a colorful one.
