Smith Island Tours: On Your Own
Day Trip
You can book your own ticket with Smith Island Cruises. According to their website, they are running tours Wednesday through Sunday, departing at 12:30 pm from the Somers Cove Marina. The cruise is about 50 minutes from Crisfield to the Village of Ewell on Smith Island. You will have ~2.5 hours on Ewell after the boat docks just before 1:30 pm.
If you want to see the nesting Brown Pelicans during your afternoon, you can call Capt. Eddie Corbin to make arrangements at 410-425-2124. Capt. Eddie has a pontoon boat and runs his own tours to see the pelicans (we use Capt. Eddie and his boat for our tours, too). Capt. Eddie can meet you at the dock in Ewell, take you out to see the pelicans, and return you to the dock before Smith Island Cruises departs for Crisfield around 4:00 pm (please check with the Captain on the Smith Island Cruises boat to verify departure so that you don’t miss the return to Crisfield!)
Please note: in order to get the boat close to the pelican colonies, you should time your Smith Island Cruise with the afternoon high tide in Ewell. Click here for the NOAA Tide Charts for Ewell.
Overnight
There are opportunities to spend the night on the island. You can arrange your own pelican tour by calling Capt. Eddie Corbin to make arrangements at 410-425-2124. Capt. Eddie has a pontoon boat and runs his own tours to see the pelicans (we use Capt. Eddie and his boat for our tours, too).
