Saturday, May 22: Field Trips & Registration
Delmarva Birding Weekends is offering tours with these COVID-19 guidelines in place.

MORNING FIELD TRIPS
HIKING: Songbirds of Furnace Town, 8:00 – 11:00 a.m.
COST: $32/person (includes entry fee for Furnace Town)
MEETING LOCATION: Furnace Town Historic Site
This field trip has sold out. If you wish to be placed on the waiting list, please email dmvbirds@gmail.org.
We’ll hike along the trails of the Furnace Town Historic Site, nestled between the Pocomoke State Forest and The Nature Conservancy’s Nassawango Creek Preserve. These forests are characterized by large areas of Loblolly Pine, mixed pine-hardwood, bottomland hardwood, and Bald Cypress trees. More than 65 bird species have been recorded here in May. Along the trails, we’ll search for neotropical migrants such as warblers, vireos, flycatchers and tanagers.
After the tour, you may choose to enjoy Snow Hill Day at Furnace Town. Residents of Snow Hill and their guests will receive half-price admission, a guided tour and a chance to learn all about the treasure right in their own backyard – Furnace Town. This will be a fun event for everyone! The afternoon includes two performances of the Perpetual Commotion Violin Group at 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM.
KAYAK/CANOE: Warblers on Water (Porter’s Crossing to Snow Hill), 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
COST: $65/person sharing a tandem kayak/canoe ($130 total), $80/person solo kayak, $50/person with your own boat & portage
MEETING LOCATION: Pocomoke River Canoe Company
We’ll launch from Porter’s Crossing on the Pocomoke River a few miles north of Snow Hill, Maryland and paddle deep into this forested wilderness of bald cypress. Prothonotary Warblers, Wood Ducks, Bald Eagles, and Beavers are regulars on this 4-hour trip, which will end at the Pocomoke River Canoe Company in Snow Hill.
On a windy evening, this paddle can present a moderate challenge. Paddlers may choose canoes, tandem kayaks, or solo kayaks, or bring their own boat. For scheduling, please select tandem kayak if you want a canoe. We will follow up later with your preference.
All paddling done by participants; some experience required. Must be 13 years old to participate without an adult. Please note: If you are reserving a tandem kayak or canoe, please plan to attend with a paddling partner also registered with the DBW. We can’t always guarantee another solo paddler will join you in a two-person boat. Thank you!
