Driving Route

We will meet at 1:00 pm at the small roadside pull-off at the Brodess Farm Site, located near 2881 Greenbrier Road, Bucktown, MD 21613. The GPS Coordinates are: 38.459031,-76.048522. Please make certain to fuel up your vehicle and use the restroom before you arrive. We will have access to portable restrooms during the tour along the Blackwater NWR Wildlife Drive.

From there, we will drive ~20 miles on our tour. We will end with a ~45-minute driving and walking tour in Cambridge that will begin at Long Wharf and end at the Harriet Tubman Museum & Education Center, located at 424 Race Street, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Before the tour, visit the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center!

The new Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center, located at 4068 Golden Hill Road, Church Creek, MD 21622, serves as an orientation center and gateway to the larger Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Scenic Byway. The visitor center is just a 12-minute drive to our meeting location at the Brodess Farm Site, and offers exhibits, a film, restrooms, picnic facilities, and staff to offer further information and guidance to visit other sites along the byway.

Please note: Due to covid-19, you must schedule a day and time in advance for your group to tour the visitor center. Their adjusted hours of operations are Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. We recommend packing a lunch and scheduling your visitor center tour for 11 a.m., just prior to the start of our tour at 1 p.m. The visitor center has indoor restrooms and an outside picnic area for eating lunch. Please visit their website to schedule your tour.

Learn more about what you can see and do at the visitor center, and explore the stories of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad!

Please note the following:

  • We have a permit that covers your $3 per vehicle daily entry fee for the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge Wildlife Drive.
  • We encourage you to bring cash donations for the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center and Harriet Tubman Museum.
  • Please make sure you have enough fuel in your vehicle for the trip, as we will not stop at gas stations along the route.
