Are your eyes starved for a big fix of colorful birds? Would your ears love to be filled with the ringing songs of newly-arrived warblers, vireos, tanagers and buntings all busily going about setting up their breeding territories? Then this is the trip for you!

Redden State Forest near Georgetown, Delaware, offer some of the best habitat on the Delmarva Peninsula for a host of colorful breeding forest birds, including Red-headed Woodpecker, Summer Tanager, Yellow-throated, Worm-eating, Prothonatary, and Kentucky Warbler and Yellow-throated Vireo.

And of course, we’ll also be on the lookout for the American Birding Association’s 2021 Bird of the Year, Pileated Woodpecker. Redden is a great place to see and hear these spectacular birds and to learn a bit about their life history and how they are specially adapted to the forests here.

The trip will involve some easy walking and car caravans between major stops. Please dress and prepare for the possibility of muddy trails and/or ticks.

Jeff will have a limited supply of Binoculager, Dogfish Head’s amber lager brewed with mixed seeds. Perfect for looking at birds, thinking about birds, and general bird loving, Binoculager is a delicious amber lager brewed with toasted sunflower, pumpkin, and flax seeds. This beer is brewed in collaboration with the American Birding Association and Delmarva Birding Weekends and benefits the American Birding Association.
