Chincoteague Bay Wilderness Landings Tour (DRIVING/HIKING)

The historic landings of Chincoteague Bay in Maryland feature some of the most unspoiled wilderness on the East Coast. During this exclusive winter trip, historically and ornithologically-versed guides will lead participants to some of the most remote and best saltwater and marsh winter birding spots in Maryland. These include four secluded landings nestled within 16,000 acres of protected lands.
Berlin Falls Park and Golden Quarter Farm (DRIVING/HIKING)

Meeting location: Parking lot for Berlin Falls Park in Berlin, MD
If it’s a wide variety of birds you seek, try this trip to Berlin’s wild 60-acre nature park and a 150-acre private farm. We’ll start at the new Berlin Falls Park which offers great looks at a wide variety of duck species like Northern Shovelers, Hooded Mergansers, and Ruddy Ducks in the park’s ponds. Hawks and eagles patrol the area for hapless dabblers. Then we’ll head 10 minutes east to Golden Quarter Farm along Ayers Creek. There we’ll traverse young forest, restored ponds, fields and the unspoiled creekside to seek Brown-headed Nuthatches, kinglets, eagles, Wood Ducks, and Wilson’s Snipe.
Assateague & Surrounds (DRIVING/HIKING)

Meeting Location: Assateague Island Visitor Center
Locals know where to see the best variety of ducks, shorebirds, and raptors. So it is local birders who will guide this secret sojourn to the four best Assateague, Ocean City, and West Ocean City winter birding spots. While seals excite many Ocean City visitors in winter, participants in this trip will also have chances to see Harlequin Ducks, Razorbills, Peregrine Falcons, Long-tailed Ducks, and a full complement of fresh and saltwater loving winter ducks.
Prime Hook NWR to Slaughter Beach (DRIVING/HIKING)
1:30 – 4:30 pm
Meeting Location: Prime Hook NWR Visitor Center
Prime Hook NWR and the lower Delaware Bay shore offer some of the best winter birding in Delaware. This trip will begin at the refuge in search of waterfowl, raptors and winter songbirds. We will then head out to several Delaware Bay access sites to scan the bay for loons, sea ducks and gulls. As the sun sets at the end of the day we will scan the marsh along Lighthouse Road at the north end of Slaughter Beach in search of hunting Short-eared Owls.
Berlin Tally Rally at Burley Oak

The Winter Delmarva Birding Weekend is more than a great opportunity to see unique local birds…it is also a time to meet unique local birders! Birders will enjoy great craft beer at Burley Oak Brewing in beautiful Berlin, MD. Learn what birds have been seen on the Friday DBW trips, and hear about local birding hotspots from our guides. Join us to swap birding stories and add to the DBW checklist for the weekend. There is no fee for attending the tally rally, but craft beer and root beer will be available for purchase. Friday, Jan. 26, 5-7 p.m.

Trips will go rain or shine. If the trip is canceled due to dangerous conditions, a full refund will be provided.
